Category 5 Hurricane

The Category 5 Hurricane is the only fruity drink that a man can hold and still feel like a man. Don't believe me? Ask country star Alan Jackson! He’ll tell you in his hit song “It’s 5’oclock Somewhere” to “Pour me somethin' tall an' strong, Make it a "Hurricane" before I go insane. It's only half-past twelve but I don't care. It's five o'clock somewhere.” This, on a side note, is an excellent philosophy to follow.

Fill a 14 oz. Hurricane glass with ice and add:
½ oz. Cruzan Pineapple rum
½ oz. Cruzan Mango rum
¼ oz. Cruzan Aged rum
Fill with orange juice and pineapple juice to 1 inch of rim
2 splashes of grenadine
Top off with ½ oz. Cruzan Black Strap rum
Garnish with an orange and a cherry and you’re all set!

Dreamsicle

This drink was inspired by a customer I had at Buzzard Billy’s. She came in asking for a Dreamsicle and since I had never made one before, I looked it up in our recipe book. Upon finding it, I noticed that our recipe was for a shot. I figured that a shot was not what she was looking for so I decided to take the recipe and recreate it into delicious drink form with a few tweaks of my own. I’m sure that a similar recipe already exists but here is my interpretation.

In a blender mix:
2 ½ oz. Smirnoff Vanilla vodka
½ oz. crème
1 cup orange juice
3 scoops of vanilla ice crème
Blend until smooth and pour into a Collins glass. Garnish with an orange.
This recipe serves two so share it with your favorite person! :)

Mango Colada

My Mango Colada turned out excellent! I've never made a drink quite like this one before. It was quite a bit more complicated then the drinks I typically make. This was mainly because of the mango puree that I used. Complicated isn't really the right word for it. The puree was more time consuming than complicated. Here's how you make it.
  • 6 mangoes, seeded, peeled and sliced
  • 1/2 lemon
  • 2 tablespoons of sugar
  • Combine ingredients in a blender. Puree until smooth. Add water, 1 tablespoon at a time just until the mixture will puree smoothly. The puree should be thick.

After I made the puree, I started adding the booze! I used:

  • 3/4 oz. Cruzan Pineapple rum
  • 3/4 oz. Cruzan Mango rum
  • 3/4 oz. Malibu Coconut rum
  • A splash of pineapple juice
  • 1 cup mango puree
  • 1/2 cup pina colada mix
  • Blend ingredients together and pour into a sugar-rimmed margarita glass. Garnish with a slice of pineapple and a slice of orange and enjoy!

Mango Colada Madness!

For my first drink I've decided to try a Mango Colada. Who are the lucky people who get to try this drink with me? My family of course! This is a recipe that my Mom tried when she was in Las Vagas and has been begging me to re-create for her for a while now. I'll be trying it out later tonight. I'll let you know how it goes!
